Six rooms,
along the north and south.
The rooms follow the house's original layout — six of them, along the north and south sides, each different in size, light and windows: one opens onto the garden, one has its own small courtyard, one has a bath. One room has a pane of glass set into the ceiling, so you can lie back at night and watch the stars. There are heaters for winter.
The east and west sides are not rooms: a tea room, a place for writing, and one space for doing nothing in particular. The courtyard is for sleeping in — and for sitting in.
The wooden stairs creak; that is part of an old house. If you come back late, step lightly — the house goes to sleep earlier than you do.
“It's pretty, it's authentic, it's quiet, and the staff are very helpful.”
